The programme is conditioned by the demand for academic personnel able to teach Russian as a foreign language in the Russian Federation and foreign countries in order to promote it in the global humanitarian, informational and cultural space.

The target audience of the Master’s programme includes the following categories of students: foreign citizens who speak some Russian, have interest towards Russian culture and wish to teach Russian in their countries; foreign language teachers planning to work in the sphere of teaching Russian as a foreign language; representatives of the international relations departments of universities.

The programme is consistent with current trends in education digitalisation and provides multidisciplinary linguistic, linguo-didactic and language training.

The specialisation is professionally-oriented teaching of Russian as a foreign language in the field of science and technology.

The academic staff is represented by experienced professors of foreign languages, Russian language, translation, and researchers in linguistics, Russian studies, educational science, linguodidactics, and intercultural communication. The programme is implemented on a network form in cooperation with the Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU).

The research activities of students in the master's programme are related to the linguistic and methodological support of profession-centred teaching of Russian as a foreign language (development of training modules, thesauruses, introduction of modern teaching technologies, etc.).

Potential employers of the graduates are educational organisations providing education in Russian as a foreign language, as well as travel and logistics companies.

The Department has established postgraduate programmes “Theory and Methodology of Education and Training (Foreign Languages; Higher Education Level)” and “Theoretical, Applied and Comparative Linguistics” as further expansion to the Master's programme.
