The Board of Directors of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) thanked and congratulated PNRPU graduate Simon Litsyn for getting the IEEE Reynold B. Johnson Information Storage Systems Award for his outstanding contribution to the development of information storage systems with a focus on computer systems with the following citation:
"For pioneering contributions to storage systems based on flash memory."
For nearly a century IEEE awards program has paid tribute to technical professionals whose exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions have had a big impact on technology, society, and engineering.
Simon Litsyn is one of the founders of modern flash memory. Professor, Head of Electrical Engineering Systems Department at Tel Aviv University, Simon Litsyn studied at school number 7 in Perm. He graduated from the Perm National Research Polytechnic University, (Perm Polytechnic Institute at the time). One of his most famous projects his participation in the improvement of the flash drive.
Conventional science claimed that his research went contrary to the laws of physics and there were constant problems with financing. Thanks to the technology proposed by Litsynthe capacity of flash memory increased and production has become significantly cheaper.
