Today for leading Russian universities and the scientific community in general it is very important to publish articles in recognized scientific journals that can be read not only in Russia but throughout the world.
Mechanisms for implementing this idea can be different: publication of articles in Russian journals with further inclusion in international databases such as Scopus and Web of Science, publication of articles in prominent foreign scientific journals, and finally creating and promoting one's own scientific journal abroad.
Perm scientists decided to follow the latter path and about a month ago a journal titled Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Modern Processes was created at one of the world's leading publishers of scientific journals Springer. Chief editors are PNRPU graduates: department head at Loughborogh University (UK) Vadim Silberschmidt, chairman of the Perm scientific centre and director of the Institute of Continuum Mechanics Valery Matveenko and Rector of PNRPU Anatoly Tashkinov. The editorial board consists of 26 people - the world's leading scientists from the USA, China, Japan, India and other countries.
The purpose of the journal is to publish the results of current analytical, experimental and computational studies on mechanics of modern materials.
Creation of a new scientific journal is always an event. Creation of scientific journals on the initiative of Russian scientists and their partners with foreign publishers is a rare case because it is necessary to prove the feasibility of the journal, how it is different from others, form a list of possible publications.
We expect that at least 24 articles will be published in the journal during the year. Naturally these articles will not always be authored by Russian scientists. Priority will be given not to belonging to a particular country but to the level and quality of the article. However the fact that the initiative came from Russian scientists gives us reason to believe that through this journal we will try to promote scientists from Russia and Perm, including employees of PNRPU - rector of PNRPU Anatoly Tashkinov.
