Scientists of the Perm Tech have developed a system that can reduce the risks of equipment failures in the field of water supply and sanitation. Artificial intelligence will help increase the efficiency of equipment utilization. The system will reduce costs and losses from emergencies, saving millions of rubles.
In the field of water supply and sanitation, it is important to ensure an ninterrupted supply of water and maintain the right pressure for consumers. An intelligent system developed by Perm scientists will help to cope with this task. A built-in mechanism for identifying hidden patterns and relationships between them will be able to predict failures in water supply networks and use equipment more efficiently.
—We have applied the method of predictive analytics, which predicts events and states of objects. Artificial intelligence, using statistical data, predicts the condition of equipment accurately, determining at what time its parameters may go beyond acceptable limits. This will allow resource supplying companies to take measures to prevent equipment failures and emergencies timely, - says Sergey Fedoseev, the author of the project, Prof. Dr.-Ing. of the Computational Mathematics, Mechanics and Biomechanics Department of Perm Tech.
Researchers have classified data on the technical condition of equipment for networks and water supply facilities. Then they developed algorithms to analyze them. Based on statistics and types of defects, artificial intelligence calculated the probability of equipment failure.
—In economics, there is a definition adopted according to which the costs of an enterprise are divided into costs and losses. If the neural network detects the risk of equipment parameters going out of tolerance and the company bears the costs of its repair, then as a result, an emergency situation is actually prevented. It can be accompanied by losses that are thousands of times higher than the cost of repairs. In addition, this allows to avoid the death of people, pollution of territories and water bodies, work stoppage of important industrial and social facilities, - explains the scientist.
The project has already sparked the interest of the Russian Utility Systems operator. The scientists plan to expand the functionality of the system and distribute the technology throughout Russia.
