Volunteer Project of PNRPU Students

17 September 2013 127

Last weekend (for the first time in Perm) there was a bicycle race for disabled children and adults. This event took place within the project called “A Step to Freedom!” organized by Perm Polytech students.
The bicycle race was initiated by students and graduates of PNRPU. Let us remind you that in July 2013 during the Summer School of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation the project “A Step to Freedom!” proposed by our students was declared one of the best among social-focused activities and PNRPU students received the grant to execute this project.
The student volunteer project supported by the Vladimir Potanin Foundation is aimed at involving disabled people into social affairs, promotion of healthy lifestyle and parabicycling in Perm.
The bicycle race was started on September 14 at 1 o’clock at Yunost stadium. Both adults and children could go for sports!
In the beginning of the event there was a show by the “Velo.perm” bicycle club. After that the participants with spinal cord injuries tried special bicycles with special fasteners for legs and rubber bands to train muscles guided by trainers.
According to the organizers, bicycling is one of the best ways of social adjustment and rehabilitation for disabled people. And it was obvious, because the present disabled people have very strong will, strength and great potential!
