"Break Point" nationwide forum for students of technical specialities

12 March 2014 127

On March 20-21 in the National University of Science and Technology "MISiS" (Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys) AIESEC will hold the second "Break Point" nationwide forum, where students of generation STEM will be able to acquire skills necessary for successful employment and for determining their direction for professional development.

The idea to provide such a platform is based on labour market's need for professionals in the spheres of "Science", "Technology", "Engineering" and "Mathematics" (STEM), who besides professional knowledge also need skills to enable them to cope with the challenges of management and business.

During the two-day forum, delegates will be able to improve their skills in successful communication, teamwork and the ability to properly present their ideas - all of which cannot be obtained merely by studying at a university. In addition, visitors can find out the requirements of the labour market, as well as meet company representatives and find out their views on their potential employees.

The first day of the forum is divided into three parts: a story of success (Speak Big), the role of students in the development of Russia and participants' assessment of competence. In the first part of the day, delegates will hear success stories from top managers and creators of their own businesses from spheres of industry, innovations, science and technology. The second part is devoted to the views of experts on the role of technical specialists in the development of modern Russia. The third part consists of a simulation game on the participants' understanding of the skills and competences required to work in a team, and of a training course on determining personal competences of participants.

The second day is divided into three parallel sections: for those who come for professional self-determination, for those who want to get work in a technical company and for those who want to realize a project of their own. The Forum will conclude with a joint training for all the participants of the forum in which they will present their vision of the future.

The Organizer of the forum is the international youth non-profit organization AIESEC, which is governed by students and recent graduates. Offices of AIESEC are active in 113 world countries. In Russia, AIESEC operates since 1989 and is represented in 28 cities across the country. Key areas of business include educational programs and international internships.
