According to the census of population in Russia 2010, 991,2 thousand citizens of Perm are representatives of 115 nations. Arabs, British, Greeks, Letts, Finns, Czechs, Yakuts, Turks, Bulgarians, Spaniards live in Perm.

At Perm national research polytechnic university study more than 150 foreigners from 26 countries.

Head of PNRPU International Relations Office Yuzmanov P.R. answers on some interesting questions about study of foreign students at PNRPU.

- How and what programs foreign students can be admitted to?

- Foreign students can apply to PNRPU bachelor, specialist, master and PhD programs. Besides traditional educational programs we offer double degree programs. Double degree programs provide simultaneous (parallel) studies in two educational programs of higher professional education at PNRPU and a foreign partner university. Upon successful completion graduates are awarded two qualifications as well as two diplomas of higher professional education from each of the universities.

- How do students overcome the language barrier?

- Educational process at PNRPU conducts in Russian. Since 2015 PNRPU offers «Foundation studies» for international students. Depending on future majors foreign students are specializing in economics, engineering or natural sciences during their study at the foundation studies course. The period of study: 1October – 30 June. In special cases the period of study can be extended to 1.5 year. Upon completion the pre-university course foreigners can apply for main PNRPU educational programs. Foundation graduation exams are counted towards entry exams.

- What is the result of study at PNRPU for foreign students?

- Foreign students can apply for state-subsidized and fee-based places. According to the results of exams foreign students get certificates (foundation studies). Upon successful completion of study in main educational programs they are awarded diploma of higher education as other PNRPU students.

- Where do foreign students live?

- Basically foreign students live in PNRPU dormitories. It`s seldom or never when foreign students and their fellow citizens live separately. This is due to everyday problems and difficulties they encounter and which solve alone very difficult. The language barrier forces foreign students to live with someone who knows their language and who can ask dormitory employees to help in case of difficult situation.

- Why do foreign students choose PNRPU?

- There is a whole range of advantages to study at PNRPU. First of all, the main faculty foreign students want to study at is Mining Faculty and PNRPU is the only engineering university in the region that offers higher technical education. Secondly, it`s the geographic location of our university. It is located approximately on equal distance from west and east borders of the Russian Federation. So it`s equal not too far for students from west, east and south countries to get us. The next undeniable advantage is great number of regional, national and international scientific conferences that PNRPU hosts annually. Also it`s impossible not to mention the highly qualified teaching staff. More than 1000 teachers work at PNRPU, including 6 academicians, 2 RAS corresponding members, 249 professors, Doctors of Sciences and 893 associate professors, PhDs. Moreover, Perm is a multinational city, there are some national diasporas. A lot of foreign applicants have relatives in Perm. All this facts allow to consider our city and university with high priority to get higher education here.

TECHNOLOGY OF PNRPU SCIENTISTS WILL RESTORE VALUABLE ELEMENTS FROM PRODUCTION WASTE

Now more and more attention is paid to the process of restoration of nitrogen and phosphorus from industrial and agricultural waste. This is connected with the need to implement the concept of sustainable development of society, based on the circular economy. These elements are biogenic, vital for plant growth. Phosphorus reserves are limited, and the process of obtaining nitrogen is energy-consuming. Potential sources of secondary raw materials are water waste from many industries: the fertilizer industry, pharmaceutical products, semiconductor production and agriculture. The recycling of nitrogen and phosphorus allows not only to reduce the consumption of non-renewable mineral resources, but also to reduce the saturation of natural water bodies with biogenic elements, the excess of which leads to swamping of water bodies and to a decrease in the amount of drinking water. To solve this problem, PNRPU scientists have developed a new approach that has increased the efficiency of extracting ammonium (a form of nitrogen) and phosphate (a form of phosphorus) from industrial waste water to 98-99%. The traditional method does not achieve such results. Moreover, the technology of Perm scientists will make it possible to produce domestically produced long-acting fertilizer based on struvite (a phosphate mineral) and will contribute to the import substitution of foreign analogues.

THE MODEL CREATED BY PNRPU SCIENTISTS WILL PREDICT DEFECTS IN LASER POWDER SURFACING

The method of laser powder surfacing is used to restore worn-out or damaged metal parts. A powerful fiber laser creates a molten weld pool, and then metal powder is automatically fed into it. A common problem that occurs in this process is the deformation of the part, being repaired, under the action of internal stresses. This leads to a defect called warping. One of the aims of developing a technological process for the repair of parts by laser powder surfacing is the prediction of warping defects. The determination of the optimal defect-free surfacing mode for specific parts experimentally is unprofitable due to high financial and time costs and often even impossible. The researchers of the PNRPU together with JSC “UEC-Aviadvigatel” developed a mathematical model for calculating warping during laser powder surfacing to solve this problem. The scientists were able to predict with high accuracy the behavior of the part during the surfacing process thanks to numerical simulations. In the future, the development will help in choosing the optimal set of parameters for repairing parts with the most complicated parts.
