MORE EFFICINET OIL AND GAS RECOVERY METHOD

Project introduced by REC "Sustainable subsurface management" together with Engineering Academy of the RUDN University is one of the best among R&D and pilot-plan projects presented during the competition organized by RUDN University in the framework with Russian and foreign tech firms collaboration.

The main aim of the competition is to draw attention of the scientists in order to find out the real world experience of the Russian and foreign business. The leading companies are making tasks, which must be solved by research groups.

The project described above meets the interest of the Reservoir Surveillance Services, servicing company in oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan. The main idea of the project is first to research and after to apply the technology for enhancing oil recovery by water-gas stimulation of formation.

Water-gas stimulation is a method for enhancing the oil recovery by inputting the oil-well gas produced at the same place into the oil formation mixed with the water. The mixture decreases the capillary forces, which holds back oil in reservoir and decreases the oil viscosity index that makes the oil recovery process more efficient.

Water-gas stimulation is one of the promising areas devoted to the oil recovery increasing index, because  along with the high efficiency one solves the environmental task about associate gas utilization and it means that there is no need to  flare it.

Currently, there is a number of water-gas technologies involving the combined and alternate injection of water and gas, and also differ in the use of pumps, compressors, boosters or ejectors to pump the mixture into the well. Each technology  works differently depending on the viscosity of the oil and the characteristics of the field. The joint project of the REC "Sustainable subsurface management" and Engineering Academy of the RUDN University will help to form the optimal set of technologies for the fields of a Kazakhstan company.

Russian oil recovery technology is water flooding technology that is not efficient for oil recovery and key point is that such method makes it difficult to use the formation for further oil production.  The research of the REC "Sustainable subsurface management" and Engineering Academy of the RUDN University  will help to improve the technologies used by the local oil and gas companies.
