A new building material that improves thermal insulation by 25% was created on the basis of foam glass.
Modern construction set the bar high on the eco-friendly materials, energy efficiency and resource conservation. Therefore, the development of new building materials and the improvement of technologies for their production is now a priority. For processing, industrial and household waste and industrial by-products are most often used. There was an offer to "improve" the thermal insulation properties of gypsum plaster mixes with the help of foam glass.
According to scientists of the Perm Tech, foam glass has become a promising filler for pores of heat-insulating mixtures. Scientists used it in a crushed state and in the form of granules. Foam glass is an eco-friendly and durable material that in recent years has proven its efficiency both as a structural material and as a "hardener" of the concrete.
Researchers have studied how the composition of building mixtures affects their physical, mechanical and thermal properties. They then conducted tests to find out how various additives change the characteristics of the material. The results showed that foam glass improves the thermal insulation properties and strength of the material. The most effective was the composition with a component content of 30% of the total mass.
The development allowed to process eco- friendly raw materials - household waste from glass - into a durable and safe material that will help insulate housing.
Comparing with the analogues, the new building material does not contain harmful polymer additives. Such components do not provide the required performance properties. Experiments have shown that the material reduced the thermal conductivity up to 0.16 W / m * ° C, that is, it provides 20-25% more efficient heat storage. The scientists' further are going to improve the adhesional strength of the mixture and the efficiency in terms of technological and operational indicators.
The development will be of great interest to enterprises in the construction industry, housing services and utilities, agricultural organizations and people who are engaged in individual conduit. Production sector has already shown interest in durable and "warm" material.
